Converting photos into b&w line drawing artworks

For the creation of Schokologos we need a black-and-white line drawing. We need a file in electronic form with two colors: black and white. The black areas are then elevated to appear on the chocolate and the white areas represent the level of the chocolate bar.

Very often we are asked whether we also photos of people or architectural buildings can be mapped. The answer to this question is conditional yes. We can not print photos, but can probably depict the contours of a person, a building or an object up to the chocolate so that the artwork is unmistakenly recognized on the chocolate.

Now, how can you transform such a photo into a black and white artwork with contours?
First, of course, you need Photoshop. Then transform your photo to grayscale. Then you apply the so-called "contour finding" filter, which is hid among the "Style filters". Now we already have got a somewhat unsightly line drawing.
The next step involves keeping the important contours and deleting the unimportant. Playing with the black and white color, you can achieve better results by thickening the black lines and diminishing the white ones.
Now you can use the Gaussian filter to blur the thin lines, and even sometimes the shade corrected, until the desired results have been achieved.

A very good introductory video can be found as a podcast by Addison-Wesely.
